Maurie McInnis, JS '88, named Provost at University of Texas

Over the last 18 years, Maurie McInnis, JS ‘88, has made an indelible mark on the University of Virginia both inside and outside the classroom. Since 1998, she has brought art history to life for countless students, published extensively on American art history including four books that have won six book awards. She has also curated four museum exhibitions and served as an advisor to American museums and historic properties. Prior to being appointed to her current role as Vice-Provost for Academic Affairs in 2013, she served as Associate Dean for Undergraduate Academic Programs in the College and of Arts and Sciences, Academic Dean for Semester at Sea and Director of the American Studies Program. 

As an alumna of the Jefferson Scholars Program, Maurie has been actively involved in helping the Foundation fulfill its mission to recruit outstanding students to U.Va. for nearly 25 years. She has served on the Foundation’s various selection committees, interviewing prospective students and encouraging them to consider attending U.Va., and has helped advise the Foundation on how to enhance its programs as a member of its Undergraduate Advisory and Faculty Advisory Committees. The impact she has had on the Jefferson Scholars community, as well as the broader U.Va. community, is immeasurable.

While Maurie will most certainly be missed, the Foundation is delighted that her talents and academic accomplishments have been recognized by the University of Texas and wish her continued success and the best of luck in her newly appointed role as Provost.
