Three Jefferson Fellows receive Double Hoo Research Grants

The Center for Undergraduate Excellence at U.Va. recently announced this year’s recipients of the Double Hoo Research Grants. Designed to foster collaboration between undergraduate and graduate students, the grants provide up to $6,000 for joint research projects. This year, three of the 23 graduate students selected to receive a Double Hoo grant are Jefferson Fellows—Caroline Kelsey, Kate LeCroy, and Abeer Saha.

Caroline Kelsey, a graduate student in developmental psychology, received funding to study infants’ brain responses to social eye cues and how that responding is affected by race.

Kate LeCroy, a graduate student in environmental sciences, will study the diversity, health and behavior of native and exotic mason bee species in Virginia, in an effort to find why common mason bees are facing population decline.

Abeer Saha, a graduate student in history, will research environmentally destructive feeding operations to help cattlemen and policymakers make informed decisions about the health of the American food system while remaining stewards of the environment.
