Jefferson Scholar alumnus unveils supermassive black hole in neighboring galaxy
March 6, 2025
Jesse Han, the James G. Simmonds Memorial Jefferson Scholar from the Class of 2020, is pursuing his Ph.D. in astrophysics at Harvard University, where he has led groundbreaking research uncovering a supermassive black hole within the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC), a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way. Jesse’s research team identified the black hole, estimated to be 600,000 times the mass of the sun. This discovery marks the first evidence of such a massive black hole in the LMC, offering new insights into galactic evolution and dynamics.
