Ameet Sarpatwari, JS '03, thrives at the intersection of law and medicine
After graduating from the University in 2003 with a degree in International Health, Jefferson Scholar alumnus Ameet Sarpatwari went on to study Epidemiology at the University of Cambridge. It was there that he received his Ph.D. in 2010, focusing his doctoral work on uncovering disease progression, treatment effectiveness, and co-morbid burden among adult patients with an autoimmune disorder known as primary immune thrombocytopenia.
Ameet’s quest to understand the full landscape of what causes and affects health and disease conditions was not yet complete. He continued his education at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law as a John L. Thomas Leadership Scholar and received his J.D. in 2013.
Today Ameet’s career thrives at the intersection of law and medicine as an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School, an Associate Epidemiologist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and Assistant Director of the Program On Regulation, Therapeutics, And Law (PORTAL) within the Division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics.
Recently Ameet’s good work was featured in a faculty spotlight by Harvard Law School’s Petrie-Flom Center for Health Law Policy, Biotechnology and Bioethics, where he mentors students and makes further use of his interdisciplinary training as an epidemiologist and lawyer.
