Longtime Darden faculty member and friend and supporter of the Foundation has passed away

July 21, 2020

It is with a heavy heart and tremendous sadness that the Foundation faces the passing of its dear friend Professor John L. Colley Jr.  John was, simply put, a giant. A devoted leader, mentor, and friend to legions of Darden and U.Va. alumni, he led by example and demonstrated through both his teachings and his actions the value of hard work and the power of loyalty.

The Jefferson Scholars Foundation owes the success of its Darden Jefferson Fellowship Program to John, who worked tirelessly to help identify and attract exceptionally talented students, as well as enlist the support of so many generous Darden alumni. The John L. Colley Jr. Jefferson Fellowships will no doubt continue to be a fitting recognition for all that John stood for in his life and meant to the Jefferson Scholars Foundation.
