Maeve Curtin, JS ’18, makes a difference through friendship and leadership

When Maeve Curtin, the Daniel S. Adler Jefferson Scholar, was a high school student in Northern Virginia, she discovered an organization that would change her life. Best Buddies, an international nonprofit organization that is dedicated to ending the social, physical, and economic isolation of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, became one of her passion projects outside the classroom. She helped launch a chapter at her high school, serving as president of the club for two years and helping to establish a volunteer movement that fostered one-to-one friendships between her peers and individuals in her community with disabilities.  

As a third year at U.Va., Maeve has continued her passion for the program, serving as vice president and helping to triple the membership. Read about Maeve’s leadership and involvement in Best Buddies in this recent UVA Today article.
