Maeve Curtin, JS '18, helps bridge the divide between the University community and the City of Charlottesville

December 1, 2015

This January second-year Jefferson Scholar and politics major, Maeve Curtin, was appointed U.Va. Student Council liaison to the Charlottesville City Council. In her role as liason, Maeve attends all City Council meetings and, in turn, shares the City’s priorities, needs, and future plans with fellow members of the U.Va. Student Council. Her goal is to help U.Va. students partner with and assist the City in more meaningful ways. She said, “We want to reframe engagement so people don’t just do community service and say, ‘Oh, I did service’, in a self-congratulatory manner. They need to be aware of policy and the issues the city is facing. It makes you a better citizen. Your work is worth more when it’s intentional.” Read more about her role and the positive impact it is having on both the City of Charlottesville and University students here.
