Longtime U.Va. faculty member and friend and supporter of the Jefferson Scholars Foundation, Jim Simmonds, has passed away
April 30, 2015
Every year Jim Simmonds was the face of the University to dozens of Jefferson Scholar finalists who came to Charlottesville. He created and administered the math exam taken by every finalist for 35 years–and he did so joyfully. No two exams were ever the same. But they each kept the high school seniors who took them on their toes, pushing them to analyze complex word problems and solve seemingly unanswerable math questions. The Jefferson Scholars Foundation is deeply saddened by the loss of Jim, a man who simply cannot be replaced, and our deepest condolences go to his wife, Monique.
