After graduating from U.Va. in 2013, Joe Riley, the Betty and Jack Blackburn Jefferson Scholar, pursued his master’s degree and doctorate at Oxford University as a Rhodes and Truman Scholar. He then went on to serve as an Infantry Platoon Leader in the U.S. Army, leading his platoon on training exercises in Thailand and South Korea. Later, he deployed to Afghanistan with the Ranger Regiment and served as Company Commander. In 2018, Joe and his wife Rachel saw a need among the military community and decided to fill it. Together, they launched Patriot Family Homes, a real estate firm that owns and manages rental property primarily geared towards military families.
