Caroline Woods, JS '05, publishes her first novel
When Jefferson Scholar alumna Caroline Woods matriculated to the University she belonged to an extremely rare set of incoming First Years–she was already a celebrated and published writer. Her book Haunted Deleware, a collection of ghost stories, was published in 2000 when she was a senior at Alexis I. duPont High School in Delaware. The book received the praises of publications such as The Village Voice and Writer’s Digest.
At U.Va., Caroline continued to demonstrate her passion for the written word as a featured author at the Virginia Festival of the Book, a mentor in the Young Virginia Writers Club and a member of Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society.
After receiving her M.F.A. from Boston University in 2008, Caroline went on to teach fiction writing and freshman composition. While she has published her short fiction in a number of publications, includng Slice Magazine, LEMON, and 236, most recently she published her very first novel, Fraülein M., a work of historical fiction about the end of the Weimar Republic as seen through the eyes of women whose lives are irrevocably changed when Hitler comes to power.
